Detailed description of University Of Georgia Golf Course

University of Georgia Golf Course is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Athens, Georgia.

The University of Georgia Golf Course first opened for play in 1968. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. In May 2006, the greens and the greens complex were completely renovated Davis Love III. The new green design brought the course up to the championship standards of today's top professional and collegiate players. The greens are very characteristic of a Jones course and the renovation included new tees, making the course more versatile for both amateurs and professionals.

The University of Georgia Golf Course has great elevation changes. Standing in front of the clubhouse, you can see RTJ's master plan spread out before you. And since they've removed a number of trees in the last few years, it's like a big, open canvas for public viewing.

The University of Georgia Golf Course has the classic RTJ themes: the strategically-placed bunkers perilously close to landing areas, and now it has some of the sweetest, velvety-smooth greens anywhere, on the Cadillac of putting surfaces - bentgrass - courtesy of Love. Most of the greens are elevated and many are multi-tiered. Almost all have excellent slope and undulation and many are mounded so that firing directly at the pin isn't always the best choice. They are also in excellent shape, rivaling any first-class resort course

Par for the course is 71 for men and 72 for women. From the Bulldog tees the course plays to 7,240 yards with a course rating of 75.2 and a slope rating of 142. From the forward tees the course measures 5,186 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 12, a par-5 that plays to 561 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 16, a par-3 that plays to 179 yards from the back tees.

Watch out for # 4, a 473 yard par-4 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole at The University of Georgia Golf Course is # 16, the 179 yard par-3.

I found the course to be a wonderful place to spend the day before Thanksgiving. I enjoyed the hills and trees of this course. The course was wide open which may or may not be of intrests to some golfers, and I thought the greens were a bit contrived. The course was in great shape and definetly worth the money and time.
